This project will redesign the Downtown Square to create a larger, more functional and inviting public space. The project will include evaluation of design concepts such as replacement of the large reflecting pool with a central fountain, raising the grade of the Plaza to street level, and creating a more flexible and functional space for large gatherings as well as individual activity.
This project is a component of the Downtown Redevelopment Implementation Plan and will be implemented in conjunction with the Downtown Streetscape and Transit-Oriented Connectivity Projects, and with public/private redevelopment efforts. For more information on this project, contact the Planning & Community Development Department at 972-205-2445.
A public meeting was held on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at the Garland Central Library to present proposed design concepts for the redevelopment of the Downtown Square, refined from the September 2016 meeting.
