City of Garland Adopts Ordinance - Dogs on Patio Variance

The Garland City Council adopted an ordinance that would allow dogs to be present on the patios of food establishments with an approved variance by the Garland Health Department.  This ordinance was signed and effective on June 20, 2017.  The language of the ordinance can be found below.  Supportive documents are currently being drafted by staff and will be posted here once they are approved. City of Garland Adopts the 2015 Texas Food Establishment Rules

The City of Garland Health Department adopted the 2015 Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER) to replace the current Article II of Chapter 22 in the Garland Code of Ordinances.  The Texas Food Establishment Rules were adopted by the Texas Department of State Health Services in the fall of 2015.   If you would like to read the rules and the City of Garland amendments, please click on the links below.

Important Information Concerning Food Permit Fees and Food Handler Certification

Effective Oct. 1, 2015, food establishment permit fees will be increasing.  Also on this date the Garland Health Department will no longer provide food handler training for food handling employees.  For more information please read this document:

2017 Food Excellence Award Winners Announced

The City of Garland Health Department is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Food Sanitation Excellence Awards. These winners scored in the top five percent of their class on unannounced food service inspections during the previous year. In addition to receiving an award certificate to display for one year, each establishment will have its annual permit fee (from $250 to $450) waived for 2018.
